Help - my boyfriend wallpapered with mural panels... results not so good. Do you have advice?
Question:There is a lot of "blistering" where paste was not laid and creasing. Thank goodness it is a woodland scene that hides much of the faults but I'm so much of a perfectionist. Is there any way to correct the errs - without ripping the panels off and ordering new one... that would be so spendy.
Answers:
Take a razor knife and cut tiny slits in the blisters... then Sometimes a steamer or hot iron/'damp cloth applied to the bubbles can flatten them
you got to peel them off or scrape it off again. next time take your time and don't think you have to do it all in one day. take a week if you need to.
good luck.
Like the old saying goes, do it right the first time and you won't have to do it over. But since you do have a problem to deal with, try to use a pin to pop the air bubbles and push them in, if there is no glue behind it you may need to use a syringe and afterward burnish the paper down until it sticks.
The reason walpaper blisters and bubbles is because YOU DID NOT LET THE PAPER RELAX FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AFTER WETTING OR APPLYING GLUE.
You wet the paper or apply glue, then you re-roll it and let it relax for about 20 minutes, then you put it up, trim the top an bottom with a trowel and a super sharp razor It never bubbles if you do that. You prep several cuts rolled up and relaxing for a pattern match. So after you apply the adhesive or wet, you roll em up, then go have coffee, then come back and hang twenty minutes later.
If this is very bad, pull it off and start anew. This isnt rocket science, you just need to discover technique.
On rolling out bubbles, soak down the bubble really good with a super wet sponge. THEN WAIT 15 MINUTES TO LET IT RELAX. There is plenty of glue under that bubble, no need for any kind of hyperdermic needle idea here. Then take a clean sheet of white paper and put it over the bubble, Then roll the bubble out. You never apply a roller directly to the wallpaper, its always thru that white sheet of paper or you will tear it up and it will look ugly.
The blistering is air pockets and creasing is where the paper was not smoothed out carefully enough.. Ripping off the panels and do again. or get a wallpaper hanger guy to do it.
get a new boyfriend.one without blisters.
DAMN can your man do anything right?sounds like a joker lol!
