If you don't have anything small enough to fit the hole then maybe you can take the knob off but, must knobs are put on from the inside. You might just have to get in the car and go buy something.
Depends if the unlock mechanism is a push-type or twist-type.
If its the push-type, anything that is long enough, sturdy enough & will fit in the hole will work. Push straight in until the knob clicks.
If its a twist-type you will need basically a small screw-driver. Insert straight into hole, twist gently until it seats itself in the slot (deep in the knob), then keep twisting in a clockwise direction (1-2-3 around the clock face) until the knob unlocks.

No need to take off the knob. Depending on the type of lock (some require a screwdriver to turn a small pin in the knob, some require pushing a small pin in the knob). Assuming you have the latter, safety pin will not provide enought leverage. If you have a refillable ball point pen, take the pen apart and use the filler and insert into the hole in the knob. Push hard and you will hear a click which releases the lock.
If your door opens to the hall, then look to see if you can fit a credit card or id where the door meets the wall. Use the card to push down on where the door locks. I've had to do this many times before. It gets easier after a while! :-P
got a small nail? Works just as good or anything you can poke in to release the lock.
if you can't open the pen and take out the ink stick and use that then go to your kitchen, look for skewers or toothpicks, for tooth picks you might need 2
You may unscrew an ink pen and use the ink tube to press inside of the hole on the handle. Keep poking around inside in and out to find the lock release
Use a meat skewer.
