Need some Plastering Tips ?


Question:I am plastering a ceiling which is going directly onto the plasterboard do I need to first put on a Base Coat or can i just apply a finish skim coat ? Thanks ;)

Tape the joints first with scrim tape-

Then skim the ceiling with finishing plaster-

You have to be fast with ceilings as they dry out fast and so two coats is preferred.


You would be better off with an overcoat and will provide good insulation.
What goes on the plasterboard now is cement similiar to stucco cement...which has to dry. Plaster is just a thin white coating that goes ontop of the cement.
I know this because this is what I have been taking out of houses that are being renovated, using a hammer to break all this crap down and replace with drywall(gyproc) which is soooo much easier, faster, lighter and more resistant to cracking.
