How many yarrds of pea gravel will i need?
Question:I built a circular firepit with a larger diameter sitting area around that and I want to fill it with pea gravel, How do i figure out how much i will need? The large circle is 15ft. diameter with a 4ft. diameter for the pit in the center and I want it to be about 6 in. deep? Please help any answers will help alot
Answers:
The first one is wrong, he squared the diameter instead of the radius.
(7.5 x 7.5) = 56.25 x 3.14 x .5 = 88.31 / 27 = 3.27 cu yrds
Minus the amount for the middle, of .23 is
3.04 cu yrds exactly
You may want to get a little less for aggregate particle expansion, I would say a bit less, around 2.75 or 2.85 cu yrds
First calculate the area of the entire circle (3.14*15*15) 706.50. Second calculate the area of the inner circle(3.14*4*4) 50.24.
Subtract the inner circle from the total circle 656.26
Multiply by 1/2 foot depth. 328.13
Divide by 27 sq ft per yard 12.15 square yards.
I hope my math is correct. See if anyone else gets the same.
For a 15 ft. diameter circle 6 inches deep will require 3.27 cubic yards of material to fill. If you dont want any gravel in the firepit area, subtract .23 cubic yards, for a total of 3.04 cubic yards.
The equation ot figure out a cubic yards of a cirlce is
3.14 X r2 X depth(in feet) divided by 27(number of cubic feet in a cubic yard. So for a 15ft diameter circle the equation wouldlook like this:
3.14 X 7.5 X 7.5 X .5 divided by 27 = 3.27cubic yards
