i have just read all the other answers ..and they are all wrong ! .in england if the glass is less than 800 mm above the floor then it must be toughened.. it will have the kite mark in the corner ..and all glass in doors and side lights should be toughened ..allthough they say if the glass is in very small panes then laminate is the way to go ..this only applies to doors

There are too many "area" codes to give you a correct answer. Check with your local Building Code office. Most require 18 to 20" above the floor to install non-tempered glass.
