How do I remove an inground basketball goal secured in cement without killing the grass/landscaping around it?
Question:The bball goal is secured in cement which is adjacent to the concrete bball court. I am trying to remove the goal and cement to install another goal. But, I don't want to tear up the court, grass, or landscaping surrounding the old goal.

Why not use the pole for an outside light instead?
cut it
You're just gonna have to dig it out and wait for everything to grow back. You could wet the groud around the goal to hopefully make it easier to pull/dig out
Cut the pole off at about 6" above ground level. Then you may have to rent a hammer drill from Home Depot or get a hammer and a cold chisel and work a circle tightly around the pole until you can wiggle it loose. Its going to be a lot of work either way, but the hammer drill will be much, much easier, but will cost some money. Or cut it at ground level and pour quickrete into the hole thats left.
you need a good chain, a truck and several 8 foot 2x6 or 2x8 nailed together, chain as close as you can to the ground, then put the board next to the pole, and put the chain over the pole, then attach to the truck ( not a wimpy truck and have plenty of chain or strap to let truck be out 30 feet, ) this will pick it up vertically
Most likely the goal that you are going to buy needs to be mounted on some sort of pole, so just cut off the current pole off at about chest level and then have a guy come in and weld a new section of pole on to mount the new goal to (assuming it's metal pipe). That way you don't have to dig up the old concrete (which is a MAJOR project & lots of work) and ruin the surrounding landscaping.
Use a Kango machine with a chisel tool piece.
It will neatly cut through the concrete with very little peripheral damage.
These can be hired quite cheaply from building eqpt hiring companies.
Don't forget to wear goggles and keep the cable well behind you by slinging it over you shoulder. Also get an assistant/s to hold the goal from falling on your head.
