Which is better for a home basketball goal? Portable or inground?

Question:I do plan on staying at this house for many years, so I'm leaning toward inground. I would consider a portable, but I don't know how stable they are. Someone who has a portable one, that is very sturdy I would like to hear from. Thanks

Answers:
Definitely go inground. Use concrete. If you don't, it will move.

Inground, by all means. Especially if you plan to be there for a while.
I have no problems with my portable goal. Just make sure you fill the base with sand and water. Mine has been exposed to high winds many times here in tornado alley. I have had it for 10 years.
We have a portable one - have had it for about 8 years or so. It stays up just fine - we have it filled with sand, and we have a concrete block on the base - one time little kids were running & jumping on the base & almost knocked it over. Even if you are going to be at your house for many years, if you do move the buyer may see removing it as an expense.
The previous owner of my home poured a cement pad in the back yard for a 1/2 court. WIth a fixed goal, it is awesome and gets so much use with our kids.

FWIW, I think a cement pad would be less than most people think. It also serves as an expanded patio for entertaining.and we don't have to worry about the kids chasing balls into the street.

I wouldn't use a portable goal unless I had a reason to move it frequently. The large base seems like it would be a good spot to trip over or just kill grass.
definatly in ground
