I need to get rid of what is called grasshopper weeds and crabgrass in my yard?
Question:I have just plain grass but the crabgrass and grasshopper weeds, especially, get higher whenever it rains.
Answers:
I've had the best success against crabgrass by simply pulling it up. The best way is to put an emergent weed preventive down in spring (when the forsythia is blooming) which will keep the crabgrass from germinating.
If you miss that window, you're kinda skrewed until next spring. The crabgrass will die over the winter. Make sure you get the weed preventer down next year.
there is a lot of weed killers out there that wont hurt your lawn, ortho one example. but if your lawn is less than 3 mo old use nothing it will kill your lawn
Use Orthro "Weed be gone" if you don't want to pull them up by had (make sure you get the roots). It will kill the weed and not harm the grass. I've used it many times with great success. P.S. Best solution is a healthy lawn if you have carpet grass. A good thick carpet grass lawn will choke out weeds and prevent them from getting sunlight to grow.
You need to kill all of your grass. keep putting the killing stuff on your yard for like 4 days. After that wait a week or so and Then get sod, with the grass you like, aroumnd your yard like 1 inch around the edges put the killing stuff so grass from your neighbors wont come in to your grass.
My mom swears by putting regular baking soda on crabgrass!
btw, we tore up all our grass and put in new, and alreday 3 yrs later we have weeds again, so I think it may be a waste of money to start over.
