How do I use HEAT BOND TAPE to reinstall my carpet in a heavy traffic area?

Question:I was told the double sided tape would not hold up in this area but, there are NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to iron the HEAT BOND TAPE without melting the carpet. It's just a small area so I don't want to pay carpet installers prices to fix it. Any suggestions?

Answers:
The Iron is placed directly on the tape which sits under the carpet. It takes a special carpet iron that you can rent from a tool rental store. Place tape under seam area centered so that both edges of carpet have equal amount of tape on each edge. Place Iron on tape, the carpet with be lying on top of the ironwith only the handle showing,in about ten seconds move the iron forward along tape about the length of the ironplace carpet on melted glue and put weight on the seam section that was just melted.Repeat rpocess until you get to the end of the seam. Also flooring supply store will also carry seam tape that doesnt require an Iron. It is made by orcon and has a strong adhesive on one side that is exsposed when you remove the paper lining then you can just postion the tape under seam and push firmly on the carpet edges to make a good contact. It does a fairly good job but not as strong as the heat tape. Good Luck.

This job should be left up to a professional
stef is right. its about 80$ to buy one at lowes.. double sided tape is useless.
If you already have the seaming tape you will have to rent a seaming iron. You can get one at your local rental center or maybe at your home improvement store. You put the seaming tape under the the seam in the carpet. The seaming iron sits on the tape under the carpet. As the glue on the tape starts to melt you slide the iron foward on the tape .As you move the iron foward you press the seam of the carpet down into the melted glue on the tape.Keep moving the iron foward , melting the glue and pressing the seam together until you get to the end of your seam.
