Rod holding toilet float is broken - can it be replaced?
Question:The float is fine. The rod that holds the float broke off at the screw end (which, also, is fine). All parts are (seemingly cheap) plastic. So, before I head off to Loews or Sears... can anyone tell me if they sell just the rods, or "rods-n-floats" sets, or will I need to buy an entire set of toilet guts just to get a new part? The rod and float assembly is in my car, so I can see what matches. I've looked on line, but nobody has addressed this issue.
Answers:
Sure they have all level of kits and they even have um with no floats.
yes
yes, at any hardware store. It may come with the rod and the plastic float thing in a small kit.
You should be able to but the rod and float. I don't know if you can buy just the rod.
go to a hardware store, or home depot
maybe you might find that one part for $1
or the two would cost $4 maybe
or the whole toilet guts, $30
or a whole new toilet $200 or so
Sure it can. Just go to the local hardware store. It shouldn't cost more than ten bucks. Honest, no sh*t! (hopefully at least not until it's fixed, anyway)
I'd call a Hardware store and ask them. They're usually less expensive, too!
yes go to Lowe's and they will help you
Yes. Actually the same thing happened to us recently. Just go the hardware store & explain what happened. They usually just give you a whole new setup to replace. You can do it yourself, it's not difficult, even MY husband did it! Good luck!
Yeah. What you need is just the "handle" part. You can get another cheap plastic one at any Ace hardware for about three clams. Just the rod and handle. If you want the whole kit and kiboodle you are gonna spend about 10 clams. You should switch over to a flushmaster system if you got the savvy. Run you about 30 bucks and 45 minutes of your time for the whole thing. And no more float! (Then you just have to worry about your flapper going bad, but them are cheap also.)
you can get most any individual part at a good hardware store. got osh in your area? most mom n pop stores still have the good stuff.avoid plastic if you can.
you said the rod was plastic so it sounds like it was a cheap assembly to begin with. You probably cant find just the rod on that type of filler valve they are made too cheap, but even if you could your best bet is to change the whole thing out. Go to any hardware store and ask for a " Fluid Master"fillervalve it is unexpensive [under $10] and it works much better then the old fillervalve you had.Changing it out is very simple and only takes a few minutes and you will be happier in the long run.
Replace the whole fill-valve. Get a Fluidmaster 400A at Lowes. About $6. Directions are super easy. Then you will be rid of the ball and arm forever. Will take about 15 minutes to install.
Yes, rods can be bought separately, but carefully on bending that rod. It could leave your water running or not enough water in the bowl.
If the rod is broken, best to replace the entire tank valve assembly if it is old. My experience is that when you start to repair one piece, you end up creating problems with the rest of the fixure. The entire "guts" should cost less than $15.
you have to buy the whole thing it comes packaged together.I have found a few seperate parts before at wal-mart
yes you can replace just the rod. just go to your local hardware store and tell them what you want.they should be able to help you without you having to buy entire filler vavle assembly...
