How to make trainers/sneakers stop from sliding on wooden gym floors?

Question:Are there any tricks to get them to hold to the surface better?

Answers:
I always spit on them. When the spit and dirt mix together it creates a grip. Another trick I use is chalk. Other than that spit and rubbing your shoes against the floor works amazingly well.

Put a strip of black electrical tape longways across the bottom of them. It works!
i was gonna say chalk or talcom powder but don't over do the powder.. i did that bowling & had to stop b/4 the line to b disqualified & my shoes stopped but my body kept going.
Lick your hands and rub them on the bottom of your shoe. Basketball players are most famous for it. The tricky thing is when you've rubbed your hand along the bottom of your shoe and you need traction again. Hmm... ;) Spit on the floor and wipe em through it.
Billiard cue chalk works. Talcum powder can actually be slippery so use with care.
buy some skate board grip, it usually has a strong self adhesive and you could just cut a couple dime sized pieces and stick on the bottom of you shoe.
Clean the bottom of your shoes very clean by using a solvent like lacquer thinner, or paint thinner.
clean with the thinner or make sure you have a good brand of shoe...a soft sole grips better
