What is meant by the term "stock lumber"? I want to build a project from a magazine and this term is used.
Question:Thanks a great deal!
Answers:
Standard sizes. ~
Is it refering so store "stocked" lumber, as opposed to special order type products? I believe it would be easier to answer if the term was used in context. Good luck
Stock lumber is what you find at a lumber yard or Home Center. It is a standard size. ( probably what the instructions call for) 2x4, 2x6 etc. It means you will not be cutting the lumber down lengthwise.
1" x 2" would be a stock lumber size, available from any Lowes, Home Depot or lumber yard. Its actual size is 3/4" x 11/2" and square on four sides. If you actually need 1" x 2" you would have this milled at a lumber yard and it would be a non-stock size.
