Baseboard installation?
Question:I have just finished my pergo floor and now its on to the molding. I was going to use liquid nails, but its not holding against the wall, wich isnt straight. What type nails should i use and would a nail gun be better(I always wanted a reson to buy one) and any other tips would be much apreciated.

Hello. The big secret here is both!. I use liquid nails and a brad nailer. The big secret is to criss cross the brads at opposing angles, so they look like an X. I dont waste time with a stud finder because time is money to me. I install professionally. The reason for the X pattern is to allow liquid nail to set and if studs aren't hit thna brads are in hollow drywall (depending on height of baseboard) This method also works great in the case with metal studding as well. I use PL 700 panel adhesive. Once this is set, its on for good. Do oyurself a favour and purchase a brad nailer and have some fun
Personally I use a Porter-Cable finish nailer. Doing the baseboard is more than enough justification for buying one.
A nail gun is absolutely the way to go. I just did my floors not too long back and when I used a hammer and nails, the nails wouldn't always go in straight and the hammer left marks on the moldings. With a nail gun, all of those problems are eliminated.
Go ahead, buy yourself a nailgun..you deserve it!
Do you have an air supply? If so buy an air nailer or brad gun. You can get one at Harbor Freight Tools for about $20.
I do not know how good the electric ones are.-they may be okay.
The thing with liquid nails is that it takes a little while to set up and you have to secure it until it sets. I have always just used finish nails. Nail them in until just about flush the counter sink with a hole punch, putty the hole let dry lightly sand any imperfections prime and paint. I think nail gun is a bit of overkill and you may end up with more dings to putty. Buy the nail gun any way and use it for bigger projects.
Nail gun is better !
I'd buy the nail gun and a stud finder. If the wall is not straight nailing into the studs will hold the baseboard tighter.
get a 16 gauge finish nailer and a compressor and nail away.
