Make a drive belt (for a belt sander)?

Question:Is it possible? The drive belt in my sander has snapped and there's no chance of a replacement. Is there a technique to make a suitable replacement. I don't expect miracles but something that'll work for a bit before it needs making again will do. Has anyone had any luck experimenting in this area?

Answers:
what brand unit is this and does the belt have the number on it ...you can buy these belts as i sell them for some brands ...just email me with more information.brand name model number serial number and belt number if it is still on the belt.

What's the drive belt like. Is this the loop that the sandpaper goes onto?

If in the UK I think the best option (but not the greenest) would be to get a complete replacement sander from one of the reasonably priced outlets (do you know anyone with a Makro card). Cost about £10.

An DIY solution occurs to me, but it requires a bit of luck. Use a section of inner tube. It's not going to be cycle tube. But it might be from something like a quad bike or a wheel barrow. Just a thought.
take a leather belt and cut it to the width and the length + a couple of inchs and rough up the leather and use rubber cement to glue them together then sew or blind rivet the joint. "note the glue is just to keep the joint together until you sew or rivet it" Good luck
if it's that old, what about buying a new one they start from about £30, alternatively if you wanna stick with the old school type perhaps you should whittle one out of wood lol
Grab the girl friends tights one leg should do it, wind it round the two drive pulleys and tie it off lasts for ages. Makes a good substitute for a fan belt in a car in a emergency.
