Donot remove the tile without finding replacement.
take a hammer and a chisel and knock it out ..
Removal is relatively easy. Without knowing if you want new/different tile or not (Which one might have to assume) begin by gently removing a single piece, then using a stiff blade scraper, and possibly a hammer (Gently) wedge under the successive tiles until they pop off. If you don't care about saving, then you can be a bit more aggressive, but should consider possible damage to the substrate,,, or removal and replacement of that as well.

You don't have to remove the old tiles if you don't want too. You can tile right over the old tiles. Make sure all the old tile is tight and replace any missing tiles with scrap tiles. They have trim tiles the thickness you will need.
