Can I change my 42 inch ceiling fan blades to 52 inch without impairing the fan's performance?

That is an "iffy" question. The extra length adds extra load and the pitch of the 52" blade, if steeper than the 42" blade, will add even more load. The motor was sized for the 42" blade and its pitch. Will the extra load be too much? The only way I know to find out is to take an amperage reading with the 42" and another with the 52" and see how it looks. Ceiling fan motors are certainly not the beefiest around and very much higher and you will overload the motor. Hope this helps you out.
Well,
You can do that, but speed may reduce. As the motor out put remains same. The Air bloe depends on capacity of motor, size of blade & angle of Cut (to the air).Hence it may not serve your purppose of getting more air with change of higher size of blade.
Basically yes you can change them but I doubt if the motor would stand up to the extra toque. Fan's are designed to be fitted with what ever the manufacturer fitted them with and they would have been tested for a larger blade so probably not the wisest thing to do.

I wouldn't do it. As already stated, it will probably over work the motor, and the new blades might not have the same mounting set up as the old ones. Just get a new 52 inch fan and save yourself the hassles and potential problems.
I am going to say 'yes' - as long as it's a quality fan and you're replacing the blades and not using add-ons.
Consider this; many fans allow you to set the up in a 4-blade or a 5-blade arrangement with no ill effects. Also, many catalogs sell fan blade add-ons to change the look of your fan. (I wouldn't use these however, because of the potential for unbalancing the fan.)
Mechanical load is an issue with many motor applications, but it really shouldn't be with ceiling fans - the bearing bears most of the weight. (Think about how long a fan rotates for after being shut off.) Once up to speed at least, the motor won't do significantly more work with larger blades.
As mentioned before, the issue I would be most concerned with is balance.
Good luck.
I'm saying NO. I tried it. Seemed like the motor got pretty warm from the extra load.
