Ok...2nd building permit question ;)?

Question:Thank you guys for the responses so far on my first question. I forgot to ask something else about this. From what I understand...if you get a building permit the building inspector has to come out or surveyer or whoever to mark the property line or something like that??

Ok, the chain link fence between our property is actually about a foot over the property line on my neighbors side (TRUST ME, they are NOT the type of neighbors to care about something like this...they have a landfill for a backyard and spend most of their time in prison to worry about it anyway) so if I DO get the permit (sigh) and the surveyer comes out and maps everything out...is he going to make me put the lattice screen fence a foot away from the chain link fence??

Answers:
I don't think the location is a big issue. If it has been there for a long time [21 years in my state] you may own the property to the fence. Some restrictions apply but it is called "adverse possession". You may be required to file a court action to perfect your claim to the land though.

The building department is going to likely have restrictions on fence height and materials. You are best to fess up and visit them for their fence regulations. It is not that painful.

Maybe ,This all depends on the inspector. The home owner might want to be a butthole and make you move as well
You definately want the underground water, sewer, and electric marked before ever starting. (They all have an "easement" and can dig up any section as needed for maintanance or additions.)
It's up to you if you want to stay legal, or if you want to avoid the taxman. You know the consequences.
