Can I cap the end of a perferated drainage line without it backing up into the cutter?
Question:I am putting a line off of my down spouts. Will enough water seep out of the holes without it backing up. I am trying to avoid running the line 75 feet down the heel.
Answers:
If you bed the drain line in plenty of stone it might work. I'd lay a 12" deep by 18" wide bed of coarse stone below the pipe. and cover it all with a plastic membrane [to limit the ground water from entering the stone] over the whole lot.
I'd also provide a means for any water backup to escape before it heads up the leader to the gutter
Do a web search on "french drain"
huh?
I think what your trying to say is can you cap the end of a drain tile so it won't back up into the GUTTER. No sure what you want to do , but if your talking about a buried tile and then just put crushed stone over the end of the tile before you bury it and if your still worried about overflow then just leave a gap between tile and downspout to take care of any over flow. Good luck, and hope I have understood what you were trying to do!
Not enough information to go on here. You need to provide the following:
1) How much rain do you expect to get in a 24 hour period?
2) What kind of soil do you have, for instance sandy soil will absorb faster than clay.
3) How far do you want to run the line.
4) Have you considered a dry well? Basically a deep hole in the ground filled with gravel and sand where downspouts/graywater and the like are emptied and thereby absorbed.
5) What does the local building codes say? Always follow the codes.
