How many inchs away does the gfi plug in the bathoom need to be from the sink?

Question:

Answers:
I Believe Any plug within 10 feet should be a GFI.
But if your asking how close you can be then it can be as close as you want as long as it doesn't get wet. I'd never put one any closer than a foot or two but I've seen them within 6 inches.
That the Idea of a GFI that it reacts so quickly that you don't electrocute yourself if you happen to drop an electrical appliance into the water.

no limits, but about 4 to 5 feet off the ground is typical, so can be used easily for razors and hairdryers
As close as you want.
does not matter as long as its within 6 feet of water or outside
Call your local city hall and ask for the building inspection office. Building codes are not yet standardized, and GFI outlets are part of the building code. Any building inspector at your local city hall will know what is required for your area.
The GFCI can be as close as you like - the national code adopted by most areas doesn't set distances from the sink. All recepticles that are in the bathroom do have to be GFCI protected, though. If you have the option, pick a location that is convenient in use.
When I sold my house in Missouri they made me install GFI on any receptacles less than 24 inches from any water source. This was FHA which the buyer was financing the house through.
