Any plumbers out there? About 3 years ago, I had a new bathroom put in..Now when I flush the toilet,?

Question:it continues to run.. I have to giggle the handle for it to stop..Is there something I can do myself. without having a plumber come to the house? Thank you for you help!

Answers:
Since jiggling the handle stops the flow, I would say it is the chain/strap that holds the flapper up when you push the handle. Could be adjusted too long and is hanging up. Turn off the water supply valve under the toilet and then flush it. Remove the tank lid and adjust the chain/strap so the flapper "just" seals. This will stop the hanging up and also allow for a full flush.

The flapper in the tank probably needs to be replaced. You can do it if you are somewhat handy.
Yes! Open the tank. Flush the toilet while the tank is open and look inside. The plunger is most likely not going down all the way until the jiggle the handle. (The plunger is the rubber boot at the bottomo of the tank where water is going out. When it is all the way down water will stop.) You can fix that by adjusting the piece of plastic with holes on it, until it seals properly without the handle jiggle.

Could be 2 things 1 it could be the chain that attaches Flapper to handle make sure its not getting lodged under flapper or it could be the flapper it self.
first thing i would do is to see if the nut to the handle is tight. if it is loose then the flapper will not seat right when you flush. if that doesn't work replace the flapper as it may be worn and that is the reason it may continue to run.
Flush the toilet while looking at it and you may be able to see the problem. Or take the top off while it is running.

Adjust the chain. When you flush the chain may be flipping up on the flush bar. When you giggle the lever it releases and is able to make a good seal and run normally.

Also if the chain is to long it may be blocking the seal at the hole so when you giggle it you unblock the seal and it runs like normal.

If those are not the problem you may need to change the inside parts of the toilet.
most are right.. check the chain and if thats not it turn off the water at the commode and install a new flapper.
yes make sure that the chain going to the handle id not binding with anything or that the chain is to short,it has different links so that you could adjust it,also the handle could be binding,or the flapper not closing all the way.
