I would like to refinish my hardwood floors.?

Question:There isn't anything seperating the rooms, so I can't do them 1 at a time. The other thing is the house turns 100years old this year and i only have about 3 month to work with before the historical sociaty wants to start showing the house on tours. Is there any thing i can put on them to make them look better in the mean time?

Answers:
It really depends what the scope of the "damage" is to the finish. If the wood is discoloured, you need to sand to remove the 'black/grey' from it and then re-varathane them... if it just looks kinda dull, you could use a paste wax and then an electric buffer for this season and finish them the way you like when there's time later. 3 months is a lot of time though. A pro would do them in a week (unless it's a 5000 square foot area)... I would need more info to direct you better... sorry.

Good Luck!

So you have a 100 yr old house that is going to be shown by the historical society and you going to attempt to sand and finish your own floors. WTF.
Min wax polyshades. It's a stain and a polyurethane in one! Sand a bit first with triple 0 steel wool.
poly shade is a BAD idea for large areas. not meant for wear and tear of foot traffic. if your floors are 100 years old they may have been sanded several times before ie not much wood left to sand. save yourself the headache and hire a professional
Varathane makes a kit for refinishing your floors, without sanding ect. This product is awesome, I did it in my house and it looks wonderful!
take a professional carpenters advice.do what youre good at and pay for the rest
Contact a Pro the will usually charge 2$ SQFT to refinish the floors, but they may be willing to do it for free, if you were able to put up some kind of sign or something advertising that this company donated the refinishing of the floors, this could be in their advantage depending on how many people tour the house in a season, it never hurts to ask...
