What is an Ideal height for workbench if using an adjustable drafting stool but also standing over the bench?

Question:I'm 5'9", and the workbench will be used for electronics. I plan on using an adjustable drafting stool to sit on, but I also want the top of the work surface to be high enough so I can stand and work comfortably. I don't want to hunch over too much.

Answers:
Kitchen counter height: 34"-36".
You could go up to 40"-42" if you're taller than the average bear.

Think of it this way - kitchen counters are designed to be used in a standing position. Plus, you'll be able to get your legs under it using the lowest position for the drafting stool.

This comes down to YOUR comfort level. You may be 5'9" with long legs or short legs. This will decide whats comfortable for you. I would suggest setting up a board on a temporary base that you can shim the top up on. Try different heights and see what works for you. Then make that the permanent height. Good luck.
I am 5'9" and have all my work benches plus my kitchen and bathroom cabinets at 37 inches. I do not feel hunched back while working at any of these surfaces.

Just make sure your stool can adjust to the height you need to sit comfortably at your bench.

Happy tinkering !!
