Can I add a receptacle.?
Question:I want to add a receptacle in my laundry room for a night light. There is a switch where I was going to pull my power from but when I looked at it close it is a 3-way. Is there anyway to pull power from the 3way switch to power a receptical? I'm not sure how to keep the receptical constantly hot. Would connecting the swithch leg and the hot cause my light to be on all the time?

If your 3-way switch is the one on the left (the one receiving power from your breaker) and you also have a white/common wire in the box, then you can wire another outlet box and it will always be "hot". If your switch is the one on the right, you do not have what is needed to power another outlet that will always be "hot". I hope this helps you.
Buy a plug in night light with a photo sensor
You can buy a switch with a night light in it and it may solve your problem if this is the hot side of the three way.
by three way I am assuming that your referring to a switch that has a third wire with the intended use of working from the top and bottom of a staircase... you can use this to power a light but I'm wondering if that is already attached to another light if that is the case you can use it but be aware that the new light will go on and off with the other light on the circuit ... and for the record the only difference in a 2 way and 3 way circuit is the third wire and if you wire it as you would in a 2 way circuit it will work as a normal 2 way circuit...
After shutting off power pull switch and see if the feed is in there or just a single 3 wire cable .
Take a tester and after removing the other cable /wire ( If there is one) turn power back on . If there is power to the cable its a feed to circuit and yes you can add a rec. off it. If not its a wire to feed light from switch.
The washer will have a1110/120v receptical and if only running a night light. They have wall mount plug mold at building supply store just take cover off rec.
Shut off power
loosen rec and install new cover for the plugmold
run molding from old rec to where you want (just above washer)
Install other box for recept and install rec .
Replace all covers
This is the easiest way but you could fish wire from a old work box down to the rec on washer behind wall . The washer is supposed to be a dedicated curcuit but a nite light or small light won't affect it.
Yes - You can look at the 3-way and you'll see the one side has one terminal to it and the other side has two terminals on it.
You will want to pull from the black wire on the "One Terminal" side, this is "HOT" all the time, and naturally your other two are the white and ground lines. Run them directly to the Outlet and it will be on all the time, even when the switch is in the off position. Also, you only need regualr 2 way wire for this, don't use that 3.way wire for a regular switch .. .. it just don't apply.
Note: I am assuming this is the first of the two 3-way switches. The one that the main power comes into, not the one that goes to the light. If it is not, then you need to go to that one to tap the constant power. Using a tester you'll know...
Not unless the hot and neutral are in the box. If you have a 2-wire cable and a 3-wire cable, there's hope. So long as the 2-wire isn't your switch leg. It's possible that the hot, switchleg, and travelers are all in the same box, feeding hot to the other 3-way on the white wire.
