Electrician help needed for hot tub wiring, please VIEW pictures! thanks alot !!?

Question:Okay I have a good bit of experience working with 110 electrical wires. Could someone please help me with my 220 wiring of a hot tub?

The first picture shows the breaker box, it only has ONE available slot so I will need to install a tandem 15-15 amp breaker to make room for my 220 double breaker… please tell me how exactly to do this.

The second picture shows the 50 amp GFCI hot tub disconnect please.

I believe the easiest way for you to explain this is to

1) Save the picture to your computer and open it in paint and draw where the wires need to go
2) Go to http://imageshack.us/ and host it and then copy and paste the “Direct link to image” to FindHomeAnswers….

Please no responses telling my to get a professional electrician, I am going to shut the entire power off to the house and like I said before I do have significant experience with regular 110 thanks a lot!

Answers:
I'm a electrician. To install a tandem breaker just pull out 2 15 amp breakers that are side by side and put the tandem in one of it place (the one nearer to all the breakers) then just hook the wire that were going to the 2 15 amp breakers to the tandem, then you'll have the 2 spaces needed for the 220 50 amp breaker.

You can run a 6/3 or a 8/3 both can run 50 amps, on the breaker side you run the red and the black under the terminals on the breaker, the white and ground is self explanitory for you (if not run thoughs to where the white and grounds are in the panel). Running the wires into the disconnect you need to put the red under one of the lugs and the black under the other (on the disconnect not the breaker) and seperate the white and the ground by useing the 2 different grounding bars. The wire running out to the hot tub, the gfci breaker has 3 terminals on it (I can't see the 3 terminal on the breaker...) but you need to hook up the red and the black to the hot terminals and the white to the neutral terminal, the ground goes with the grounds and the white pigtail coming off the breaker goes to the white grounding bar. Hooking it up in the hot tub is self expanitory, usually they will have a wiring diagram that you can follow, thats easy. Hope this helps, if you need any more help email me, be glad to help out. OH one other thing just be sure to have the power off when you do this, 220 sure hurts when you get hit with it.

the best thing to do is go the libery and get book on wiring. you can get the same book the pros use. hard to tell you on line to complicated.
You are going to have to get a tandem breaker(two 110 breakers /one slot) and replace two of your existing circuits to free up two slots for a 220 volt double breaker.
Wiring scheme then is :black wire to one of the 220 v breakers and red to the other 220v breaker, white to the neutral and green to the ground.
OK, Starting at the panel land the ground wire first on the ground bus. Next, land the neutral on the neutral bus. Now you need to either shut of the power to the panel form the main or just shut off the breakers you want to move to put in you wafer breakers. Once the power is off, turn off the breaker and remove the wire. Next remove the breakers buy pulling the inside of the breaker out. Install new wafer breaker and land the 15amp wires. Now install the 50amp breaker the same way you installed the wafer breaker. Land the black wire in the breaker and then the red wire. and leave the power off. You should be done at the panel. At the hot tub land the wires from the 50amp breakers under the two screws in the spa disconnect. land the neutral and the ground and then land that white curled up wire on the neutral bus (or ground depending on instruction). Now take a black, red white and green wire from that disconnect to the spa and land per manufacture instructions. double check all connections are tight and all breakers are in the off position. Start by turning on the main breaker and then the spa breaker in you panel. Test for voltage with a wiggy or tick tester. if everything is good turn on spa breaker. If all is good you should be finished. Good luck. One more thing, your neutral should be the same size as you power wire.
