What is glossiest & shiniest for silverware box I sanded, poly, varathane etc?
Question:It was dark stained now natural light wood color, I just want it natural, except very glossy & shiney, any recomendations?
Answers:
Varathane is my favorite poly, but you might find something thats an epoxy, = to 60 coats of varnish, this product is really nice and shiny, and durable, but I would go with Varathane!
First, find out what kind of wood you have and then if it is going to look like something really nice or just a box.. If you want to use the good stuff forget poly and varathane and go for tung oil. The high gloss stuff if you want it really shiny. Go over the box with oooo steel wool, clean with a tack cloth, and then apply a layer of tung oil. Let dry, go over with oooo steel wool again, clean with tack cloth, and apply another layer. Get at least 6 layers on the box. The best thing that I have found to apply tung oil with is a piece of nylon stocking. Take just a bit and apply a light layer to the wood. Do not overwork and make sure there are no bubbles. You should be pleased with the result.
water base urethane steel wooled between coats will give a easy-glossy finish
The quickest and easiest way to get that shine that you want is epoxy. Just use West System Part A and B, you can get it at West Marine. One coat and the finish will be thick and glossy as all hell.
