I accidently spilled 5 litres of paint down a bathroom sink. Should I be worried ?
Question:
Answers:
Flush with hot water for 3 - 4 minutes. Pour 1 cup of laundry detergent down the drain, wait 10 minutes then plug the drain and fill the sink basin with hot water. Let it drain. That should do it for latex paint, for oil fill the sink basin a couple more times and repeat the flushing just to make certain.
Just leave the water running for an hour or so.
If it is latex paint it should be diluted enough so you won't have a problem.
just keep the water running for a while to get it out of your pipes
isn't that a lot of paint to "accidentally" spill? is it water-based paint? keep the water running.
As long as you leave the water running for a while you should be okay. You might encounter a problem if it is oil based paint.
There are a lot of "if's"...
If it was latex you'll have no problem.
Oil base? Well, some things could go wrong. It might not be compatible with the plastics in your drain plumbing.
Also..if you have a septic system and it's oil base, you might have problems with your septic system not digesting the waste properly. If you're on municipal sewage, that won't be a problem.
If the paint can be drained as far as the metal sewage system, you're home free.
There is only one other smallish possible problem. IF it's oil base and IF it's municipal and IF somebody notices and tries to track it backwards and treat it as a hazardous dump...you could be in for a bad hassle of a week.
Have a nice day!
How do you " Accidentally" spill THAT much paint!?! One way or another; you should have a problem. Its like; I accidentally mowed the neighbors flowers all down!
Like everyone else recommends, run lots of cold water down the drain.
Good luck!
