Is lattice heat resistant?
Question:I need to cover my radiators because I'm starting a daycare in my home. Could I use lattice in the wood frame that I make to cover the radiators? The lattice will be like 2 inches away from the radiator so it won't be touching the radiator. I just want to make sure the lattice is heat resistant.
Answers:
Most radiators are steam or filled with hot oil. They have many types of radiator covers available to build. Remember with you doing daycare, even lattice may not be the best alternative. The holes in the lattice are often inviting to little hands to reach through. They sell decorative radiator cover metal, its virtiually a metal with small cut outs to allow the heat to move through. Radiant floor heating is tubes of hot water that run under the floor. The reason I bring this point up are these tubes heat the objects in the room, which then radiate to heat the air. Use caution, local building codes and fire codes especially with daycare situations are very strict, so you may find more help in that direction.
it is NOT
Why shouldn’t a decorative radiator grill
be made from wood?
Because wood is an insulator and contributes to radiator heat loss.
It also dries out, curls, splits and warps over time when exposed to
constant heat. Wooden frames and supports also take up far more
space than radiator enclosures from Beautiful Radiators .com.
depending on the type of radiators and the size, check the code around your area and follow it you don't want something to caught fire (lattice or house)
