I want to stain the concrete floor in my living and dining rooms. Can I do it myself? Contractor? Advise?

From experience, you will need to use muratic acid with a 10:1 water to acid ratio or stronger to clean the floor first. A stronger mix can pit the floor so be careful. Also make sure to wear eye protection and acid resistant gloves. Most importantly: ADD the acid to the water to prevent a vapor cloud that can be harmful. Also, make sure that you rinse the floor completely - use plenty of water yo neutralize the acid. Any acid residue left on your floor will act like a sealer and won't allow the stain to bond. MAKE sure you protect your walls and any metal surfaces from the water and acid - the water will damage plaster and the acid will cause metal to rust quickly. Getting the floor "acid etched" properly is the most important part of your project (something that the instructions on store-bought products neglect to emphasize).

Good luck and have fun with your project!

You can buy a DIY kit from a guy we delt with. Very helpfull and reasonable on price that does all kinds of floor coating kits
Yeah, do it yourself. The funkier the better. It's a very current look.
yes, paint it
you can do an acid wash it sprays on clear then oxidizes different colors with the minerals in the concrete it looks cool
I've only done this twice professionally. Use Miuratic acid to clean first and rinse thoroughly and let dry. Bad stuff, be sure and ventilate well. Be sure you like the stain, it'll be there awhile.
