Refrigerator door won't stay shut?
Question:Same with freezer. They both pop open just a little. Is there a fix for this? Or am I stuck getting a new fridge?
Answers:
make sure all screws that hold the door were well tighten and check the level of the refrigerator and adjust it if needed.
They work on a magnet principle which will hold them closed unless there is a greater pressure holding them open. Is there something blocking the doors when you close them? It may be something that will give when you close the door and then push back when you aren't pushing it in with the door.
If you don't see anything that appears to be a problem, try removing the stuff on the front of the shelves in both the freezer and refrigerator. Do the doors close and stay closed now? If so that was the problem.
I'm not sure if you need a new door or what but I think that happens when the fridge needs to be defrosted.
After checking the screws on the hinges and making sure that there is no ice or other obstruction on the doors, I would check to see if the doors are warped. Sometimes the weight of the stuff that is stored on the shelves of a refrigerator door will distort the closing. Previously, I have physically bent a door so that it closed properly.
you need a new gasket
Put Vaseline around the rubber, make sure you put it around the entire rubber seal. Someone told me about this when my door would pop open and it worked.
Your gaskets are not sliding slightly on the hindge side when you close the door. You can spray a little Pam on the metal with the door's open. If no Pam then put a little vegatable oil on a paper towl and wipe the gasket's and the metal on the hindge side.
I have the same problem with my fridge. It's because of a bad seal and the landlord won't replace the seal, the fridge or let me put a fridge of my own in.
As a temporary fix i use bunji cords. I hook one end on the back of the fridge, pullit through the handle and then take it to the back again.
This also works well for keeping my toddler out !
you may need to check the leveling on the refridgerator... i had the same problem... if it is level and nothing is in the way, you might want to replace the magnets that keep the doors closed. good luck.
You need a new magnetic strip. It's easy ...go online and order one by giving the info on your refer.
There is three things you need to check;
1) check to make sure there is nothing inside your refrigerator and freezer that is blocking the doors from closing
2) you need to adjust the levelers for the front higher than the back to encourage the doors to close better.
3) make sure the gasket and the area where the gasket touches is clean and free from debris.
Make sure there's nothing growing inside that's trying to get out. It happened to me once, and it was embarrassing.
The fridge has to be level. The right way is to fix the floor. Check the floor side to side and front to back. You may have to shim it to level.
Level it
Either you have too much stuff in them and it's off level or you twisted the doors.
