Paint panelling?

Question:I don't want to remove the dark panelling, is there a way to paint over it

Answers:
Yes you can paint it but you will need to use a deglosser first. Wipe this on with a rag, let dry. Then I would use an oil based primer. You could use a latex primer, but to make sure it wont just scratch off with the slightest touch I would use oil. Problock from sherwin williams is really good and it comes in gallons or spray cans. Then I would use a good quality paint and apply 2 coats. If you plan on using a roller I would use a 3/4 inch nap so you wont have to brush in the dips of the paneling. If you follow these steps you will end up with a professional finish that will last. Good Luck:)

lightly sand and primer before painting.
If the paneling is smooth, you should sand to rough it up. Use Kilz water based primer, two coats, then paint.
YES! I JUST HELPED MY PARENTS DO THEIR'S LAST SUMMER! PRIME THEM, IT WILL PROBALLY TAKE TWO COATS, DON'T BE SHY BECAUSE IF YOU PUT 2 COATS THE DARK PANELLING WILL NOT SHOW THROUGH, THEN YOU CAN PAINT AWAY!!
Clean the paneling first with some TSP and let dry. Then prime and paint. Tint primer same color as paint to avoid a second coat of paint.
Prime with a product called bulls eye. Allow to dry then apply the color of your choice. No sanding necessary.
Give the walls a light sanding with a pole sander and 100 grit sandpaper. This will give the paint a better base to stick to. Then apply one or two coats of a stain blocking primer of your choice. Use latex if at all possible. Then use 2 coats of paint as one coat is never enough. The second coat covers any small missed spots from the first coat plus it also adds the sheen of the paint your using.
im doing the same job soon yes itll take several coats of a good interior paint you can use primer first but i just bought 3 gallons of paint itll take 3 coats im thinking no need to sand my god!
