Is it necessary to postion a window a/c unit in the center of the window opening?

Question:

Answers:
The unit will work when off center. I always center them to even the stress on the sash.

No...as long as you have the entire area closed off from the outside.
no
Not really.
If the upper sash is used as a "hold down" , might add support for unit on outside sill.
If the unit has vents on the sides of the case it is best to leave room for air circulation .
Recommended side clearances should come w/ unit.
