What is the smallest window opening for a window air conditioner?
Question:Specifically concerned with the height and width.
Answers:
Many brands now have a unit that can be mounted on a wall near the ceiling and use a very small (3" diameter) opening-leaving your windows free for looking outside.
you can get low profile air conditioners like 12 inches high.
Of the comventional window units that we sell at our store, the minimum is 19"w x 15"h but remember it isn't the size of the window you need to be concerned with, but is it strong enough to cool that particular room. For example, an 8000 BTU A/C will cool a room up to about 250 sq. ft, compared to a 10000 BTU, which cools 400 sq. ft. An A/C too small for the room will be a waste of money. If you do have space issues, I recommend a portable room A/C which has an exhaust hose made to fit in a window opening 4"x 12"-48".
