Ideas to refinish coffe table?
Question:My sister gave me her old coffe table. Thinking it was solid wood i sanded it down to restain it. It is not solid wood it is plywood under the the wood i sanded off. It has dark brown wood legs, i have not sanded yet, have not decided if i'm going to. Any creative ideas for refinishing/redecorating?
Answers:
You can use crackle paint on the legs and edges and do a tile mosaic from broken plates or purchased tiles.
You can go to the resale shop and get plates cheep, break them into pieces by scoring them with a glass cutter and using pliers to "bend" a piece off. This same method works for terra cotta pots which make great tiles but you have to put a piece of glass over the table top to protect them.

You could make it your photo album so when people come over you could have something to talk about. Like a scrapbook with glass over it.
Why not get some old dinner plates or tiles, you may even find some for real cheap at yard sales or flea markets. Break the tiles or plates into pieces, spread some mortar on the table, lay the pieces down and spread some grout over that. That will make a nice looking coffee table out of what you have.
Be creative. Instead of an ordinary finish, stain the top. Then set something, like pennies or flower petals in an arrangement. Then shellac them on. You will have your own designer table. Carry the design down the legs.
