I just moved, are my dishes okay?
Question:My family moved
and we packed some dishes in some boxes
to prevent breakage, we used
newspaper to wrap them
(silverware, plates, bowls, cups, etc.)
must we wash them before use
or could we use them right away?
is this not safe?
Answers:
If you new what conditions newspaper was kept in I believe you would wash thoroughly . But honestly I would think that's common sense
a little rinse under water and they should be fine.
Clean newsprint used to be used for an improvised sterile surface for childbirth. I would prefer to wash anything, but unless you are very susceptible to infections it is probably not necessary.
rinse with water to get rid of some the dirt from the newsprint. and dust that may have settle from travel.
I would maybe wash them or dry them with a towel..they might be okay!
well I think I would wash them no telling what might have left a surprise on them yumm
clean it thoroughly as it may pick up microbes and virus during transpo.
when moving it is best to clean your things very well so you start a clean life with your new house.
good hygiene
Although I'm sure they aren't covered with anything more than dust, I think it would be wise to wash them. I would anyways.
Personally I have used stuff that I wrapped in newspaper and we were all ok. It's hard to find time to do everything when you are moving, especially with small children. We used everything once straight from the box and then put it in the dishwasher. If things are going to sit in your cupboards unused for a long time, then it's probably best to clean them first.
If you feel comfortable eating off of the newspaper without the dishes, I wouldn't wash them. Other than that, I'd wash them.
