How to get ride of mold in my washer?
Question:I have front load washer. Mold has developed on the rubber rim. Need help how to clean the mold. Thanks.
Answers:
bleach
My Mom has the same problem with hers. She's tried about every cleaner I can think of, including clorox. You might want to check to see if your washer has been recalled. Mom's was, but we found out about it too late to get any type of refund. The best thing is to use clorox and never leave laundry in it too long. She never leaves anything in it over night either. Take clothes out, hit the OFF button, and leave the door open. Hope this helps, and sorry I don't have a cure for that one.
Identify the source. The main cause is usually use of a wrong type of detergent that creates too many suds. These suds collect in nooks and crannies and cause mold.
Only use an HE (high efficiency) detergent. The HE detergent creates a lot less sudsing and is designed for the modern front loader.
To clean: first wipe the inside of the washer, especially the area where the door seals to the inside. Mold can collect around the insides and folds of the rubber seals. Get in there and make sure you cleaned it all. You could use bleach or Pinesol.
Use a quarter cup of dishwashing detergent (powder is best, liquid if you must), along with a towel. Put the machine on the "sanitary" (hottest water) setting. Let it finish its cycle. We also have used Pinesol here with good results. This should get rid of the mold completely.
I know somebody that swears that a packet of Crystal Light
powder will clean it out. Run it with no clothes through a cycle
and leave the door open when not in use. http://appliancequickfix.com/ has some good information about appliances
