I know what you mean, and the answer is yes! half the task is common sense, take your time , it's not a race, think things through. And the results will be satifying.
If you don't do it yourself, you end up with massive bills for what you could possibly do for yourself if you looked into how it was done. i.e. I just installed two new outside doors, one a French door. I did need assistance from a friend to install the French door because of the weight and size, but the manufacturer wanted $800 to install it and I did it for almost nothing.
