How do I make Bermuda grow?
Question:In Georgia, we have Bermuda grass that is thinning out. We've tried seeding, watering and TruGreen and still no results.
Answers:
i agree w/ Fred but also Bermuda grass is cool-weather grass. It's usually the lst to come up in u'r yard & comes back in Fall when u'r other grass is gettin ready to die. At least it does in ur lawn.
take a three finger rake " like a pinch fork"and scarch at the dirt where you need the grass to grow and place the grass seed in that lose dirt that you just turned over it will give the grass seed a chance to root . and water it at night . Fredf
When Bermuda grass grows in the root system spreads out and connects together. thus the problem you need to thatch the grass. There are two ways to do this buy a thatch rake or buy a thatch blade for you lawn mower. this should be done at the first of the year but it can be done during the growing season it will generate a lot of clippings so mow first the thatch rake is a lot of work so i would go with the blade. Bermuda grass does very well in hot climates if it has water one inch per week
Bermuda likes hot sunny weather and plenty of moisture. If the area doesn't get much sun, it is hard to grow. These patchy areas that you are having trouble with will take time to cover on there own because the grass has to spread into the bare spots. You can get a plugger which cuts a plug of grass from a good area and allows you to transplant into the bare spots.
