Water pressure in tub/shower is bad. 1/2 the water comes out of the faucet and the other 1/2 the shower. why?
Question:When we go to shower and we pull up the nozzle to turn the shower on the water pressure stinks. only half the water goes to the shower and the other half is still coming out of the faucet and into the tub. I want to figure out how to have all of the water going into the shower head. I think this will fix my pressure problem. I just don't know what I need to do. New faucet? seal? sledgehammer?

you need to replace the seal on the diverter
You have a deversion knob that you can pull or push.
And that is probably not working to well it may need to be replaced, or there may be some kind of restriction keeping
it from going all the way when it is pushed or pulled.
I think you just need a new "stopper", or plug, that keeps the water from going out of the faucet. Yours must be worn out! There should be a way to take out your old one. Bring it to the hardware store to find something close to it.
In your tub faucet you need to replace the seal which you pull up to get water to go up to shower head and or get a new faucet, these usually unscrew pretty easily
If it the type of diverter that is located on the tub spout, you can replace the spout easier than messing with the diverter seal. Look under the spout where it connects to the wall. If there is a slot there, you will find an allen screw that holds the spout onto the supply pipe. Remove it and "twist and pull" to remove it. If no slot, it is screwed onto the supply pipe. Turn counter-clockwise to remove. Take it to wherever you plan on buying the new one and match it up. If it is the screwed on type, get some teflon tape to wrap the threads before screwing the new one on.
Sensible_man is correct its very easy to replace that part of the shower assembly its either a matter of unscrewing the assembly or removing the screw holding the assembly in place... another option to consider is that maybe the pressure for that bathroom is not up to par sometimes especially if its a second floor or higher bathroom... the sharper image makes a water saveing shower head that also works well for homes that have bad water pressure its called the oxigenics handheld shower head and can be seen here
