How to treat smelly wood?
Question:I have a ventage 1962 record player that I am taking apart, and redoing. I took the speaker cloth off the wood and scrubbed the wood with pinesol but it still stinks! This record player looks great and sounds awesome. It just smells old and gross. Any ideas would help.
Answers:
Try washing with hydrogen peroxide. The handy release of oxygen when it contacts organics and or infection should kill those nasty bacteria causing the stink, and lighten up any hair you have on them too. I say that is a reason to be happy. So be happy and STINK NO MORE!
maybe seal the wood with a clear finish?
I work for a local Timber firm and to prevent fine hardwoods from this sort of thing we tend to have it sanded, sealed and then a nice clear laquer. Just pop into your local timber yard/store and get some free advice on how to get this done and the best possible products to use! Hope it helps
let it under the sun rayes...sun is good enough 4 it
the smell is probably mold. i would try bleach on it in a spray bottle.
there is a product called fabuloso... its a cleaner and it smells really good. use a bleach water solution... one part bleach to five parts of water and put just a little of that fabuloso in there... use a spray bottle and spray some of this solution on there... then let it dry out in the sun... hope this helps..
