I bought a 42 inch 4 blade ceiling fan and it stinks!!?
Question:whats more important for the best air flow, more blades or longer blades?
Answers:
more blades will move More air because the is less room between them thus more area to disturb the air
Blade pitch determines flow.
42 inches is kinda small! I put one that size in a 10X10 bedroom and it works okay in there. The bigger it is and the more blades it has, the better for a larger room. Also, make sure the blades are turning the right way, one way is for winter, the other for summer. Check the little switch on the motor box.
first 3 answers are correct. would like to add distance from ceiling will alter the flow. about a foot clearance would be right. too close just wont work well.
Both,
A 52 inch, 5 blade is the only way to go.
Small room or not, that's the one to get.
However, don't but a 'ceiling hugger' unless you have to.
They are for low ceilings and not as efficient.
Surface area of the blades is the most important aspect of air flow... at the same rpm more surface area equals more air movement.
Typically the more blade the fan has the more surface area there will be. This of course is not true if the blades are smaller sized with higher blade counts. Blades with higher surface area can rotate slower for the same air flow and thus are quieter and will wear less.
blade pitch, change the pitch on the blades and it will push more air. you can do this by taking them off and bending them slightly more their pitched now. you take them off so you can bend all of them the same amount so it doesnt get out of balance too much.
Yeah, range dog is right. 52"x5 blade.
But,,!! if you don't need it all the time and don't mind moving a fan around-you can buy a 24" box fan at Wal-mart (~$10 ) that will move much more air. You just have to set it on the floor or in a chair. When done you can just stick it in a closet.
It's that new fan smell...
u should have both
