Who knows how to remove a light fixture?
Question:It is a simple 60 watt light bulb fixture in the middle of my ceiling that I would like to take out.
Answers:
Ok,First you must turn off the electric to that fixture. Then just find the screws holding it to the ceiling and take them out.Next you would unscew the wirecaps that are connecting the fixture wires to the wires coming from the ceiling. That should be it.Good luck!
The first thing you will want to do is turn on the light and have someone to tell you it went out- while you go to the breaker box and flip each 20 amp breaker off and back on until they say "yes". You will then be able to safely remove the light. Then just match your new fixtures wires color code the same..(black to black and white to white...then your ground wire). You can do it!!
Turn the light on and find the circuit breaker or fuse that will shut off the electricity to that circuit and turn off the breaker or remove the fuse.
1- Remove the bulb from the fixture.
2- Remove the globe or glass enclosure from the fixture if you haven't done so.
3- There should be 2 screws visible that can be loosened to where you can twist the fixture loose and leave it hanging.
4- You will see the wires that are connected to the fixture. (In the US one will be White and the other Black.
5- Loosen the wire nut by twisting it counterclockwise remove the fixture wire and put the wire nut back on (twisting it clockwise).
6- Do the same with the other wire and put wire nut back. (you should have the fixture in you hand unless there is a 3rd wire - ground - which should also be removed -bare copper or green insulation).
7- Tuck the wires back into the box and if you aren't going to replace the fixture you will need a 4" Blank (round or octagon cover) and paint to match the ceiling.
You can now turn the circuit breaker on or replace the fuse you removed in the beginning.
Good luck ! ! !
1. Have someone stand at the lite while you are turning off the breakers. Turn off breaker to lite.
2. Remove plastic or glass globe around fixture.
3. Remove light bulb
4. The 2 screws you see in the top of the fixture connect it to a junction box. Remove these screws.
5. Find black wire in box. Disconnect black fixture wire from the house wire. and replace wirenut on house wire.
6. Repeat process with the white wire. If 2 white house wires are twisted together, make SURE they stay that way. Same with any other house wire..Remove fixture white, replace wirenut.
7. Buy new fixture.
8.Install white wire back first exactly as above.
9. Install black wire exactly as above.
10. Attach ground wire from fixture to a ground wire in the junction box. If your house wiring has no ground, and the fixture is above 8 feet high, you don't need one..(NEC)
11. Attach fixture with 2 new screws to the old box.
12. Screw in lite bulb.
13. Make sure it works, then screw on the lens..
14. Drink beer and enjoy...so easy a caveman could do it!
Good luck!!

First kill the power to the fixture. Double check that with a tester before touching any bare wires. Once you have determined that the power is gone, you remove the fixture by removing the screws that are holding it in place.
Once the fixture is gone, you should tape off the wires with wire nuts and electrical tape. Put them back into the box. ( assume there is a junction box in the ceiling) Cover the box with a cover or trip piece.
If you want to fill the hole in the sheetrock, you will have to kill the power to the wires and disconnect them at the switch or breaker box. DO NOT sheetrock over the junction box if there is power in there.
They sell decortive cover plates remove the light fixture wire nut the wires off and install the cover plate you can even paint them. This way if you change your mind you dont have to pay me Mr Sparky to come out to remove it or re- install it for you. GOOD LUCK
