Can I still paint my porch if it's been raining out?
Question:I started to do some of the priming yesterday and it started raining last night. I need to get the paint job done today. Can I still paint if the wood has gotten wet from the rain?
Answers:
No because wood absorbs water and if you pain it while it's wet it won't set and dry right and could warp or be messy peeling off. Wait until the porch is completely dry and when the weather is warm not hot then you paint it's best to do it when it's between 40 and 50 degrees out since it's fairly cool for paint to dry and settle without warping or peeling.
As long as it's dry enough. Wait until the sun is up enough to dry the wood out completely otherwise you run the risk of traping moisture inside. That can lead to moldy wood that will fall apart.
Don't as wood has to breath espeicially when it gets wet and if you paint it, the wood inside will go rotten. So I advise you to let it dry (best in the sun) and then paint it. After you paint it the paint will act as a raincoat to the wood, so, you don't have to worry about your wood going green any more
You can do anything you want. After all it is your porch, your effort, your money that bought the paint.
If you want it to stick for a long time, and not have to redo it a couple days later after you first strip the deck, now THAT is a different kettle of fish.
Directions are on the can. You don't follow them...well, it is the same as jumping off a cliff without a parachute. Wouldn't you agree?
no no no it will peel with in weeks if not days as all the water the wood had absorbed has to go some where userly back out though the newly painted surface
