What's the best stain/preserver out there for a wood fence?

Question:Just cleaned it all up, removed a lot of fungus, mold, and moss; now I want to protect/seal it.

Answers:
Wax based preservatives, such as Thompsons, are cheap easy to apply and offer minimal protection for the fence, figure one year for this approach. Semi-transparent stain allows the grain to show through, if you use quality such as 100 % acrylic you can expect 3-5 years protection. Solid color 100% acrlyic will provide the highest level of protection, last by far the longest, up to 10 years but will look like paint and will cost the most.

Either MINWAX or THOMPSONS Water Seal. Both are very good.
Go to home depot and ask them what they think. They are good at that stuff.
Depends on what you want the finish look to be, a good oil based semi-transparent or the oil/acrylics are good. If you use the Thompson water seal you might as well just pee on it cause you might get a yr of protection.Stick with the stains and you'll get a good 5 yrs Good luck Les the painter
