Putting a house together from pre-engineered pieces?
Question:Has anyone done this before? What companies are out there to look at? My boyfriend has worked as an assistant General contractor at a few internships, when he graduates in May he will have a degree in construction management and then will work for a home building company as a project manager. We think after a year we should be able to build our own house. I've looked at "Owner Builder Solutions" website they seem like a good idea has anyone used them? They say they are not modular or mobile homes. If I use them what else would I need to buy? Thanks

http://www.fertighaus.de/...this... is the type of thing you mean....i also hope to buy one in the future...there are several options..they build the whole thing..build only the shell....you build the whole thing..they give prices for each option..they dont paint,fit kitchen,fit bathroom suit or put wood flooring in but most else they do,you buy the plot of land ....sorry it,s in german,you will have to find some from your area

In 2007 with housing costs still expanding exponentially, I think it's a valid option. I've been doing a lot of research on the subject and the substances.
PRE-FAB,,,, no matter what anyone else who answers says here is a viable choice, and certainly in your own research you can find HUNDREDS of sites on the WWW that agree,and sell a quality product.
If I ever do it again, I'll go re-enforced concrete, or steel, for less than half what new frame construction costs now.

ive built a SIP ( structual insulated panel) house works great, not totally finished out w paint and trim as in what u are getting at but its a great way to get a building up quick ( a few weeks from foundation to roof). the factory makes the panels to ur specs and ships them to ur site, u just have to prep the foundation w sill plates and u just stand them up and glue- nail them together.
