Microwave not heating up?
Question:I was told that since microwave does turn on, lights and turntable work... most likely the MAGNETRON needs to be replaced. The microwave is no longer under warranty... would I be able to buy the part and switch myself, and how? The MAGNETRON part is covered for up to 8yrs but how do I do it? I want to avoid technicians fees. they want to charge like $50 to just take a look at it...when I know whats wrong. Please Help?

Yes and you should have asked the ones you talked to to sell you the Magnetron with instructions. Taking the cover off the unit is the hard part but not complicated.
You would be better off to just buy a new Microwave. By the time and money spent on getting the part, if you could even GET the part, and installing it without doing damage to something else...well, anyway, you get the idea.
Instead of reparing the same what i sugest you you canage it new one becuse even if you repair the the same problem amy arise after some so dont waste money on that .
It aint worth it . Go get another Mic. Nothing but trouble and if it dont work in the end you'll be kickin your self in *ss .
Microwaves are really cheap and this is not an appliance that you want to mess around with so just go get a new one.
Microwaves operate on as much as 3000 v DC. do not attempt to fix it your self. The magnetron is most likely bad. The part will cost you almost as much as a new microwave. I would buy a new one.

Forget about it. Don't waste your time, go down and get a new shiny one and your out about the same amount money. Plus you have a new one and maybe one with some new features you didn't have on the old one. Good luck.
We've had a good one for 22 yrs, and was just told by our repairman it is no longer cost worthy to repair microwaves.
It hurt us hear that because it's the last of the plain ol' dial control. Plus no turntable. One of the good ones that didn't need a turntable.
He worked on it twice, through the years replacing the magnetron one of those times.
Ma am, it's probably best to just replace it.
The magnetron is easy to change. All you need is enough skill to be able to unscrew the sides or back to slide out the electronics in the microwave. At that point it is very accessible. You can buy a replacement tube at a store that does warranty repairs for your particular brand.
There is also a high voltage capacitor (fat plastic or ceramic cylinder) in there to be concerned with for two reasons. One is that if the microwave has been plugged in recently there could be a charge still stored in it (requiring that you touch a jumper from it to the oven's metal frame to discharge it). The other is that this component could be the failed one instead of the tube.
The magnetron is bad. Throw it away and buy a new one.It would cost more to replace that part than it is worth
Unless you are just completely in love with your microwave, junk it and buy a new one!

Microwaves are very dangerous, they can still shock you even unplugged. Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it. With the microwave unplugged. You will need an ohm meter and a well lit area to work in.
