Help me to fix my leaking toilet?

Question:My toilet tank is leaking in the bowl, very little, but leaking. Could please someone tell me what needs to be replaced in the tank, how to do it and if I can do it myself. THANKS!!

Answers:
You may need a new flapper, they are really inexpensive and easy to replace. Go to Home Depot and they can explain it to you!

This happened to me and finally a little leak turned into a big leak...Well it was resolved by tightening a loose screw on the bottom of the tank!! Thats it!!
change the washer
well, i don't know what piece you need but maybe you should block the leak with something and ask friends and family if they know anyone that could help you.
Very easy to do - go to Lowe's or Home Depot & buy a new stopper/ flap.

Actually - open the tank & see what is ACTUALLY happening. Is it just seeping thru cuz it doesn't seal off well? That's what it sounds like.

WIll prolly cost less than $5 and be changed in 5 minutes.

They also sell total tank kits for like $20 if you need it, but still easy to install.
Good luck!
there is a good chance that it is just the black flap in the tank. after a while the do not form a good seal. just buy a new one and replace it. make sure you shut the water off first. you unhook the chain and the flap is usually hooked on to both side on little plastic tabs
Put a new flapper on it. How hard can it be. Gee wiz!
Remove the tank lid and look inside. You will see a flapper that lifts up when you push the flush handle. It could be that the chain/strap that lifts it has too much slack and is holding the flapper up off the sealing surface. Adjust the chain/strap. If not that, turn off the water supply valve under the toilet and flush. Lift the flapper up and wipe off the bottom of the flapper and the sealing surface in the bottom of the tank. Sometimes calcium deposits build up and cause leaking. If not that, purchase a new flapper and install it. Very easy and quick to do.
It can be one of two things - so first remove the lid to the tank (also called a cistern) and look at the water level.

If the water level is too high and the water is leaking through the top of the overflow pipe, the rubber washer on the inlet must be replaced. Size is usually as big as the incomming pipe. (1/4 inch - 10mm)There is many types so I will not be able to tell you how. Close the water supply to the tank. You must usually remove the float and float arm to get to the inlet pipe. remove the washer/rubber and take it to the relevant store to find an exact replacement.

If the water level is lower than the overflow pipe level, the rubber ring at the outlet of the tank(lowest level) must be replaced. The size of that ring is 2 inches or 60mm. The flush unit must be removed to get to this ring. Some systems allow you to unclip the unit and the ring is held in place with a washer and nut or with a plastic ring.

The leak don't look big but a toilet leak is usually very big. It is the same as if you let the tap run in a small stream continuously.

Your local hardware store or plumber can help you with diagrams on the workings of the toilet.
check for a crack in the tank.
