At what angle do you sharpen scissors?
Question:
Answers:
Scissors can be one of the most challenging tools to sharpen. Many times the problem is just a loose pivot screw which can be tough to tighten if the threads have been "peened" (hammered to lock in place). Another problem can be bent or twisted blades that leave gaps between the blades and may need to be "tweaked" a little. As to blade angles. The angles vary from one manufacturer to another and on its intended use (hair, paper, fabric etc.). Most run between 10 and 20 degrees. I usually take the scissors apart and copy the angle using 220 grit paper on a one inch belt sander in the direction of the cutting edge to leave a little "tooth" (slightly rough). Find a few old scissors to practice on and you'll get the hang of it, practice makes perfect. RScott
45 degree but if you want to get them sharp get a rat tail file(the kind with a pointed part on one end)and go down the bevel side(side that has fat and thin part front side)make sharpening motion in one flowing move(don't do this to back side)if you do one side 3 times do opposite side 3 times each side equally
