How to put curtains up?

Question:I'm trying to drill the holes above my french windows to put the holders up that the pole will rest on, however the drill just won't make the holes (I'm using a hammer drill). I guess there must some sort of heavy duty lintle there or something. Does anyone have any bright ideas of how I can get this curtain pole up?

Answers:
I've got this problem too...I think by hook or by crook my other half got the holes done in the end with a heavy duty hammer drill, but when the poles eventually fell down (and believe me, they will), he put up a wooden plinth which we painted the same colour as the walls and he fixed the curtain rail to that.

He fixed the plinth on using extra-long screws with the hammer drill (in a different position to the old holes), but if your curtains are not heavy you might get away with No More Nails or similar. I just have voile at the windows now, with blinds in the recess.

Good luck!! Those old concrete lintels are fab, aren't they?

go buy yourself a brand new masonry drill bit, ideally diamond tipped, they're not too expensive. you probably hit a bit of concrete or something.

in fear of coming across sexist, which i am not, you may need a man or someone a bit stronger to 'help' get it in.
Drill the holes a little higher up avoiding the lintel

I take it you are using a masonry drill bit in the drill
Try drilling the holes further up or down to miss the lintel
are u useing the right dill bit
Use a masonry drill bit at a lower speed and keep moving the drill back and forwards to clear the cement dust, that way the tip will not overheat and burn out.
