I purchased cedar wood chips from the pet section of a store. Are these wood chips good for repeling moths?
Question:The package reads that these chips are good for pets' enviroment, i.e. dog houses, gerbels' homes, etc. I want to use these chips to put in my closet to keep moths out. Are these the same type of chips that are used for that purpose?
Answers:
I don't know about pet cedar products, but cedar lined closets and cedar chests, and yes cedar blocks and chips repel moths. Therefore if it's safe for animals I would assume yes they are the same thing. Though read everything on the label to be sure that the chips have not been treated or altered. Plain pure cedar chips are cedar chips no matter how they are labeled for marketing.
Cedar chips are, not other woods, that why people have cedar chests.
Cedar is known for its ability to keep most bugs like moths away from clothes. This is why you have cedar closets in some homes in the south particularly.
I am not sure that one bag of chips would do you any good. You can try it but I would think you would need a larger supply of cedar wood in a closet to repel moths.
Good luck!
Cedar chips would be goods in your closet to keep the moths away. Just spinkle a few on the floor and on shelves, but avoid letting them touch the clothes, as the oils may cause stains. Replace them with new chips every few months, or sooner if your moth problem is bad. They will also repell silverfish.
