What's the best way to repair "crackling" wood trim without color loss?

Question:We have a ton of wood trim in our house that appears to have been stained & then coated with a protectant. The wood is several decades old, on the exterior and interior. The color is a very deep brown, just light enough to see wood grain. All of the wood is crackling in places, meaning that the finish and dried, bunched up & raised from the surface of the wood. The finish has turned darker than the orginal wood & is very tough to remove. To keep all of the wood matching in color, we are looking for a remedy other than stripping & re-staining, if there is one.

Answers:
You can use any brand of wood glue and mix it with varnish with similar color of the wood in repairing the cracks.
